Going on…

Near HomePlus store

Hi All, I’m going on week 6 of living in Daegu, and week 8 (i.e. 2 months) since I arrived in South Korea! This is an extremely short post.. sorry!

School has been delayed for a few more days, so that the teachers can set up online “classrooms”. From what I can surmise, we will not have a specific site to use throughout the city/country, nor do we have a specific method for these online classes. I hopefully will find out more concrete details tomorrow, but as you all know from your own experience in the US… this is a very new process for many, and it will not be perfect right out of the gate.

Today (Sunday) felt like things were going back to normal. I decided to walk the road that leads to my middle school, just to see what was around there. I also wanted to get my eyes on some farmland and tractors because.. ya know.. “Yeehaw!”, “Howdy!”, and all that good stuff…(But shh!… Don’t tell my parents… )
On the road, today was the first time that I saw real traffic. Its like everyone wanted to give their car a test drive. At the major traffic lights, there were policemen who were actually controlling the lights manually. I had seen it 1 or 2 times randomly in Seoul, but this was multiple men and multiple lights. It was also the first time I had really seen police out and about.
However, this afternoon there was an emergency text alert (we get them 2-4 times daily with different information) asking that we maintain social distancing/self quarantine for 2 more weeks. Those of us who will be going into work must still take the regular precautions.

Enchanted

This week, I had the opportunity to explore a HomePlus store. It is like a very fancy (and much bigger) Super Target. This was my exciting adventure for the week! I finally found regular BREAD, pepper jack cheese, Nutella, and a ton of wine options! I walked around the store feeling like Giselle from Enchanted!

I do hope that SOON I can go on some proper adventures and share the pictures with you. For now, here are pictures from a sunset I was able to watch from a mountain top! Wishing you all good health and sanity as you continue social distancing!
